What is triple play

Triple play refers to the mutual penetration, compatibility, and gradual integration of telecommunication networks, radio and television networks, and the Internet into a unified information and communication network, with the Internet as the core. It only needs to introduce one of the three networks to realize the functions of TV, Internet, and telephone, and the network resources will be fully utilized.

triple play

The so-called triple play is to provide an ideal low-cost FTTH or FTTB (data, voice and CATV) access solution. The triple play optical fiber switch provides downlink optical ports and CATV optical signal output ports, which are connected to the ONU placed in the user’s home. The triple play optical switch is designed for the emerging Ethernet-based triple play FTTx. The three-in-one fiber optic switch provides a variety of network management methods, using a standard RS-232 interface, a Web browser, a command line interface (CLI) and a network management platform based on the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). System administrators can easily configure features, monitor performance, and troubleshoot switches.

Main services provided by FTTH network construction
1.Overall plan

With reference to  the Chinese market demands for the development of broadband access network, combined with the characteristics of current GPON products and the specific operations of existing network deployment, it is recommended to adopt an FTTH construction mode, which has the ability to provide end users with ultra-high bandwidth and bring IP to end users Network+Cable TV+Fixed telephone and other feature-rich business models and the best business experience.

2. The main services provided by the FTTH network

The FTTH system can be used as a comprehensive access method to provide high bandwidth and QoS guarantee capabilities. It can carry multiple services including Ethernet/IP services, voice services, and video surveillance  and other services to meet the needs of Triple-play. It can provide voice, data, video, and surveillance services access and bearer:

triple play overall network solution

Data service: FTTH can provide a bandwidth of more than 30M, which can meet the needs of Ethernet/IP-based data services for a long period of time,

Such as Internet access, P2P, file downloading, and online games of various services and applications

Voice services: FTTH systems can provide voice services, including softswitch  (and various value-added services) using VOIP and traditional telephones using 64kbit/s circuit emulation. From the perspective of technological development trends, the softswitch mode will become an implementation mode that FTTH must support.

CATV business: Including digital cable TV and high-definition cable TV. The effective occupancy rate of GPON bandwidth can greatly increase the occupancy rate of the upstream bandwidth of the video image, and at the same time provide a higher downstream bandwidth of the video image terminal.

For public customers: mainly provide voice, data and video services;

For large customers: commercial customers, mainly provide voice, data and monitoring services.

Ftth-based network planning
1. OLT devices

On the one hand, the OLT  converges the signals carrying various services and sends them to the access part according to a certain signal format for transmission to the end users. On the other hand, OLT sends the signals from the end users  to each service network according to the type of service.

OLT devices should be able to flexibly converge the same services of its users; for all Ethernet/IP services, it should be distinguished by different uplink ports, and distinguished by different VLANs through the same uplink port.

OLT setting mode: OLT is centrally set at the end office to facilitate centralized management of equipment and save the transmission resources required for network connection. With the implementation of light-in and copper-out, pipeline resources can satisfy the laying of a large number of optical cables in the future. The cost of optical cable material accounts for a small proportion of the pipeline cost. As the cost of optical components further decreases, the difference between the construction cost of a large-core optical cable and a small-core optical cable  will become smaller and smaller. Centrally set up at the end office can greatly reduce the investment of the access point. Centralized maintenance management can reduce maintenance costs.

2. ONU/ONT device

The ONU is responsible for the information exchange with the OLT, and can provide user access through built-in or external user network interface equipment.

ONU equipment performance requirements: ONU equipment should comply with the corresponding technical system. ONU can be configured with different user interfaces according to different applications scenarios.

ONU setting and power supply: ONU should be set according to the application mode and business requirements of the FTTH network:

You can choose to set the ONU in different positions such as the cabinet in the building corridor or shaft, and the outdoor optical transfer box. In principle, the ONU uses the local power supply mode rather than the remote power supply mode. To ensure the normal working of voice services during power failure, ONU power failure protection can be provided as needed.

3. ODN network planning

The Passive Optical Distribution Network (ODN) connects the OLT and the ONU and provides a means of transmission; the ODN includes all optical cables, passive components and line auxiliary facilities between the OLT and the ONT.

The ODN network is dominated by a tree structure, including feeder section, wiring section, and household section. The optical branch point in the middle is the optical distribution point and the optical user access point. The ODN feeder section extends from the OLT central office to each distribution point, the wiring section extends from the distribution point to each access point, and the household section extends from the access point to each user, and terminates in the user room, or directly connects the home optical cable to the ONU.
